College Admissions Consultation
The college application process can seem overwhelming, complex, and daunting for many students and parents alike. And because the college admissions application is perhaps the single most important element of the application process, understandably, many families struggle to find where to begin. In fact, in order to craft a strong application for admission, the minimum requirements include: a strong GPA, an impressive extracurricular and volunteer resume, competitive SAT or ACT scores, and perhaps the best essay a teenager has ever had to write and on the most difficult topic—him/herself! Anxious yet? To say the least.
Through initial consultation and assessment of academic and extracurricular strengths, Mrs. Aróstegui Karshis helps students develop a personal application strategy to present themselves as exceptional candidates based on their unique background and accomplishments. She will help each student prepare the best possible applications, set realistic goals for admissions, and compose interesting essays in order to maximize the chances of acceptance to colleges.
College Essay Development
Perhaps the most challenging task in the college application process lies in writing the College Essay. Basically, students are asked to reflect, describe, and reveal themselves as unique, self-aware individuals, eager to begin their future. Quite a difficult task, I must say, especially when most teenagers lack the introspection required to narrate what is demanded of them. And, more often than not, students will need to write more than one essay; in fact, they usually write 3 to 4 personal statements or supplementary essays.
Mrs. Aróstegui Karshis will aid in every aspect of the writing process, from planning to drafting to polishing the final product. Writing is a difficult task, as it demands thought, creativity, and vulnerability. But with Mrs. Aróstegui Karshis, each student will find his/her writing voice, narrate an interesting essay, and feel more confident about writing in general. Through Mrs. Aróstegui Karshis’s professional guidance, students will polish and tighten the content, grammar, readership appeal, and structure of the personal essay to create a well-crafted piece that will increase their chances of college acceptance.
SAT & ACT Prep
Students will need to purchase the The Official SAT Study Guide (Redesigned SAT) available on the College Board website: store.collegeboard.org. All other materials and practice tests will be provided.
